About Accounting and Financial Women's Alliance Atlanta Chapter
The mission of the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance (Formerly American Society of Women Accountants) is to enable women in all accounting, financial and related fields to achieve their full personal, professional and economic potential and to contribute to the future development of their profession.
The American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA) was formed in 1938 to increase the opportunities for women in all fields of accounting and finance. The Society began with three members in Indianapolis during May of 1938. The organization has since grown to over 90 chapters and over 6,000 members across the United States. In October 2012, the organization’s members made a groundbreaking decision for the future of the organization by voting for a name change. Effective January 31, 2013, the national organization officially changed its name to the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance with the tagline, “Connect. Advance. Lead.”.
The Atlanta Chapter was chartered in 1944 as the twelfth chapter of ASWA. Our chapter has led the way in chartering various new chapters throughout the Southeast area and many of our members have served or currently serve on the National Board and The Foundation Board.
