Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance District of Columbia Chapter
About Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance District of Columbia Chapter
The Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA) is a national professional non-profit organization whose mission is to enable women in all accounting and finance related fields to achieve their full personal, professional, and economic potential and to contribute to the future development of their professions.
Formerly the American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA), the organization was founded in 1938 and has grown to include chapters throughout the United States. Our members are women and men who work in the accounting and finance professions as individual practitioners, partners, and managers in local, regional, and national accounting firms, professionals in industry, government, and academia, and as experts in accounting information systems. The majority of our members have attained professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, CIA, and CFP. However, certification is not required for membership.
The District of Columbia Chapter of ASWA was formed on April 6,1950. Our members meet monthly September through June, interacting at dinner meetings, social gatherings, and charity events. We actively promote the continuing education of accounting and finance professionals by offering quality CPE programs. The chapter invites experts from our diverse professional and academic communities to present on relevant and emerging topics in the areas of accounting, finance, information systems, and management.
