About Ames Chapter Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance
The Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance (AFWA) (formerly American Society of Women Accountants or ASWA) was formed in 1938 to increase the opportunities for women in all fields of accounting and finance. The first chapter was chartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. AFWA members range from students and young professionals to experienced career women and retirees. Our members work in public accounting, government, non-profit, and corporate accounting. They are CPAs, EAs, CMAs, CFPs, and more. And many of our members are just beginning their studies for advanced certifications.
The Ames Chapter of the Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance was founded in 1990 and currently has 17 members. The Ames Chapter focuses its membership efforts on the Story, Boone and Marshall county areas, although we have some members from around the state. Like the national organization, the Ames Chapter has members with diverse backgrounds and interests. Our members work in public accounting, education, government, and private industry.
The mission of the Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance is to enable women in all accounting and finance fields to achieve their full potential and to contribute to their profession.
