Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women
About Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women
The Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women Newfoundland and Labrador (PACSW) is an arms-length, legislated body created in 1980 by the Provincial Government. Our task is to provide information, analysis, and advice to the Minister Responsible for the Status of Women and other government departments on matters that impact women in our province.
Our mandate is to:
- Advise the minister on those matters relating to the status of women that the minister refers to the advisory council for consideration;
- Advise the minister on those matters relating to the status of women that the advisory council feels appropriate;
- Bring before the government and the public matters of interest and concern to women; and
- Establish the general policies that will govern the organization, administration and operation of the advisory council.
PACSW is committed to bringing government and community together to make real change for women in Newfoundland and Labrador.
We work hard to make the voices of all women heard to government and the public.
By providing guidance and direction to provincial government we can identify options on how to move their existing polices forward to achieve ensure equality or deal with policy gaps that negatively impact women living in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Through our many community partnerships, we raise awareness on issues of concern to women. We are not a front-line service provider however we are fortunate to have a multitude of organizations in the province doing this valuable work.
